Week 3... Oh DEER.. sigh

This week was super exciting for me! With some good cleaning of the garden started, I felt really accomplished. So many things are up above ground now and looking wonderful! However, with a garden you have so many things to worry about... bugs, mold, fungus and animals. We had our first attack, conveniently on Saturday before picture day. Some doe decided that since the radishes and beets were up and looking so amazing they would test taste it for us.. Well ,apparently the LOVED it as the mowed the whole row down! The day after I took the pictures the deer must have come back and this time ate all the radishes in the front right corner but left all the salad greens.. sigh. I did go out on Tuesday, stuck sticks in the ground tied string/ twine onto them to create a barrier. As well as empty beer can crushed and tied together ans stung on fishing line to make noise.. whew what a lot of work! On top of all of that the older boys and I took turns with "deer duty" which consisted of sitting out side with Macy and scaring the deer away. 6 am til 9 am and 7 pm til 9 pm was our watch hours. Macy such the amazing dog that she is would even chase them off then come back to the porch and just watch!

Now onto the picture show :)

Week 2.. Tell your problems to the potatoes

So, a slight side note before we get into this weeks picture show.. After I took these pictures I couldn't help myself I had to do some "weeding" or de-grassing. Well, while doing so I had this adorable 4 year old that wanted to help so bad.. a.k.a Emma, however I was worried the potato plants would be up rooted so I had her dumping the weeds and grass in the compost and while she waited... well, Emma LOVES to talk and sing so.. I told her to talk to the potatoes. And at first she wasn't sure what I meant by that, so I said tell your problems to the potatoes, tell the potato how much you miss you brother Hayden.. It was awesome she did great! Now on to the weekly adventure we call the family garden and Nordlund Manner :)
